2012-13 Exec

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Society Exec 2012/2013:

President

ryan

Ryan Morley
Maths and Economics, Third Year

Hi! I’m Ryan; I’ve just been elected president of this society for the upcoming year. We’ve got a lot planned this year so it is a great time to start your Gold award! I started my award before coming to Warwick and have been offered amazing opportunities with it, including expeditions to the Pyrenees, Lake and Peak district, plus some memorable moments! DofE in general, and especially the Gold award, is a great way to show employers that you are not just academically confident, but that you can learn new skills, persevere and work with new teams to achieve a demanding goal. While the award is challenging, some of the best friends I have made are from expeditions and the support you get from the society will help you immensely to complete the award.
So any question you have or want to get involved don’t be afraid to ask!

Vice-President & DofE Leader

Alexis

Alexis Sofianos
MMORSE, Fourth Year

Hey everyone! It was 6 years ago, when I started my Bronze at school in Cyprus. I soon completed the Bronze, Silver and Gold and was so excited about the award, that I went on and took part in an award's leader course. Ever since I have been deeply involved with the award and met a lot of people from other countries. I was given many opportunities and really want to help new and even existing members of the D of E society to make the best out of the award as well! A few years ago, I had the chance to take part in a camp in Finland, where I had the opportunity to meet participants from other cultures and share ideas and experiences with them. Also, before coming to UK for my studies, I was a member of the Cyprus Award Panel that had the responsibility for overseeing the Award in Cyprus. Most people think that D of E is just about hiking, but as you can see, there is a lot more to that and I will do my best to help you explore the award in its full depth.

Secretary

Scott

Scott Henderson
Engineering, Second Year

Hi! I'm Scott, the Secretary at the Duke of Edinburgh Society. I started the Award in my first year, and have completed my Skill, Volunteering and Expedition sections whilst at Warwick. The society has given me the opportunity to meet lots of people, from a variety of backgrounds, as well as travel to new places.

Whether you're new to Warwick or you're a returning student, you'll have a fantastic time time in the D of E Society!

Treasurer

Nathalie

Nathalie Muffat
Accounting and Finance, Second Year

Hey there! Name's Nathalie and I'm your treasurer this year. Unlike most of the others, I'm still working towards my Gold Award and seriously enjoying it. It's a brilliant way to do stuff you love (from the night walks to the socials and pub nights) while meeting great people. I only discovered DofE at uni last year, but I don't regret getting involved for a second... And neither will you!

Expeditions Officer

Eve

Eve Bayram
Classical Civilisations, Second Year

Hi, I’m Eve, and I’m your Expedition Officer for this year. I’ve been involved in DofE for about 5 years now as I completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold awards with school. Before my own expeditions I had no previous experience of camping or hiking and found it quite daunting, but I found that the expeditions are actually where you have the most fun! They may be challenging, but you will have a team of great people around you who are ready to offer support. So if you’ve never heard of DofE before, have always wanted to do it, or have started your award already then get involved; I will do my best to answer any questions you may have about the expedition, kit or anything else – please don’t hesitate to ask!

Expeditions Officer

Will

Will Cranfield
Engineering, Third Year

Hi, I am Will and one of the expedition officers this year. I am a 3rd year engineer and I started D of E when I was 16 as a direct entrant to silver. After completing silver at home, I started gold at Warwick. So far I have completed my residential expedition and skill and I am working on my volunteering and physical recreation. I have really enjoyed completing the award and I have done a lot of new things. I am keen to help others, if you have any questions just ask .

IT & Publicity Officer

Hendrik

Hendrik Worschech
Economics, Third Year

Hi, I'm Hendrik, and I'm this year's IT & Publicity Officer. I joined DofE in my first year at Warwick. Coming from Germany, I have never heard of the award before and was really interested in what it could offer me. I'm now nearly done with my Gold award and just need to finish my Residential section.

If you have any questions regarding the award, my position within the exec, my degree or anything else, don't hesitate to ask! :)

Social Sec

TK

Thumakpreet Kaur
Biological Sciences, Second Year

Hello everyone! I’m Thumakpreet, your social sec for this year. After completing my bronze award with my local authority, I started my gold at Warwick. It has been a great experience so far and I would definitely recommend you grab this opportunity to do the award. Also, we have some great socials lined up this year, which you will not want to miss. If you have any questions, just ask. :)
