The key goals of the society, as set out by our founder members, are as follows:
-
To develop and maintain a positive profile among all members of the students' union and develop links with other university societies.
-
To expand membership and participation in society events which, over time, will necessitate an increased level of professionalism and flexibility within the society.
-
To organise expeditions combining international volunteer work with independent travel, trekking, adventure or any other activity that interests our members. Ensuring that our expeditions have a well defined purpose; such as taking part in a community, conservation or research project.
-
To be an effective and reliable resource in support of first time travellers. Including both physical resources and the collective pooling of our travelling experience and contacts, and to provide support to anyone interested in taking part in an expedition whether they wish to travel as an individual, in a pair or in a group of up to 15.
-
To provide a social environment conducive to: fostering new relationships between people with common interests; the formation of new expedition groups; and maintaining friendships forged on previous expeditions. Including weekend trips and regular socials.
-
To support the fundraising efforts of those members of the society who wish to participate, with an emphasis on mutual support and pooling resources.
-
To encourage interaction among students of all ages, courses, sexes, nationalities, ethnic origins and with all degrees of previous travelling experience, by welcoming new members and encouraging group
-
To maintain strong links with our associate members as a means of expanding our resource network and continuing expedition friendships after graduation.
