Academic Convenors should convene elections for SSLC reps for each year group except first years, who will be elected by the Students' Union. Elections should be held when it is convenient for the entire relevant cohort to vote: a core lecture, a separate SSLC election meeting, which is publicised to students, or electronically via email.
Convenors elect second, third and fourth year Undergraduate and Postgraduate student representatives.
The elections themselves should be conducted as follows:
-
Self-nominations for the position of SSLC Representative should be taken from the meeting of students by the coordinator of the election (the convenor or another member of staff from the relevant department).
-
If only two students nominate themselves then they shall be automatically elected.
-
If more than two students stand to be SSLC reps then an election will take place.
-
The election will be held as follows:
- A brief one minute speech by the candidates (or equivalent brief email version to all relevant students).
- The candidates should turn around (if the election is conducted in person) while the cohort votes by a simple raising of hands. For an election conducted by email, the relevant students should be invited to vote by email.
- The winners are announced and their details (courses, names and email addresses) are forwarded to the Students’ Union’s Education Officer and Academic Representation Coordinator at: democracy@sunion.warwick.ac.uk using the ‘Rep Info’ forms.
