Performances

To mark special occasions, bell ringers sometimes ring a method or group of methods for an extended period of time, under specific rules.

This is called a quarter peal, comprised of typically around 1260 changes and lasting 40min to 1 hour. If ringers are feeling particularly ambitious, a full peal, consisting of 5040 changes and lasting up to 3 hours may take place, but don't worry, this is rare!

Sometimes, ringers perform a quarter peal just to show they know a method well. As bell ringing relies on the entire band co-operating and everyone being in the right place, performances represent a real achievement.

These pages contain a record of past quarter peals and peals by the society.

For an explanation of change ringing, see here.
