Pre-application Consultation

The University announced its outline development proposals in November 2005. After that, pre-application consultation was carried out so that all interested parties - from local residents to local councillors, community and business groups - could make their views known.

Our consultation was based on the principle of ‘front-loading’ – which means that everyone had a chance to give us their comments on our draft plans before the outline planning application was submitted to the relevant authorities. This is in keeping with the planning legislation. Many people and organisations responded to the consultation on our proposals and the University's Masterplan was submitted as an outline planning application.

Pre-application Consultation

In November 2005, a special issue of our ‘CommUnity’ newsletter - outlining the University’s vision for the future, explaining why it needed to expand and the potential development areas – was sent out to more than 4000 local residents and hundreds of other interested parties.

These local stakeholders were invited to record and submit their comments using a reply slip attached to the newsletter and were also invited to attend ‘drop-in sessions’ on campus to find out more about the plans. A press release was issued to the local media, announcing the plans and advertising the drop-in sessions that were held in Warwick Arts Centre at the end of November 2005.

During 2006, the University attended a number of meetings with local authority groups, including senior members and officers of the local councils, as well as community and residents’ groups to discuss the plans more thoroughly.

Further drop-in sessions were held in venues around the local area at the end of June and beginning of July 2006. These took place in Kenilworth Library, Charter Primary School in Canley and Cannon Park Shopping Centre, Canley. Members of staff and consultants were on hand to answer questions and provide more detailed information about the proposals.

Throughout the pre-application consultation period, the University's website was updated with new information about our proposals.
