The site is an existing car park and is well screened by trees and existing buildings.
There is an established tree belt to the south adjoining the Varsity public house. Immediately to the north is the 4-storey University House and to the east is the University’s boiler house and energy centre, which is also surrounded by established trees.
The architects have identified the maximum dimensions for the new car park based on several optional layouts, which will be submitted for planning in outline.
Immediately to the north of the car park will be a site for a future building relating to University House with a pedestrian link to the Westwood Campus.
The detailed design (exterior elevations and cladding materials) will be developed by a specialist car park contractor working with the University and submitted as Reserved Matters in late Spring after outline permission is granted.
The final design will be based on Design Guidelines prepared by Associated Architects to be agreed with Coventry City Council as part of the outline planning application.
It is expected that construction on the car park will start later in 2017.
