University Pay by Mobile: Temporary reduction in parking charges

From the 19th April - 30th June, the Full Day tariff between Monday - Friday for the University’s Pay By Mobile service will be at the reduced rate of £3.50. More information about car parking can be found on an ongoing basis on the Car Parking webpages.

New round of City of Culture Research Projects funded by Warwick and Coventry Universities

The latest round of awards for collaborative research projects contributing to Coventry City of Culture have just been announced. Now in their third year, these collaborative projects are jointly funded between Coventry University and the University of Warwick, and have been granted funding of up to £2,000 for projects to partner with a Coventry-based organisation to undertake locally impactful research that invites the general public to participate

Autonomous pods SWARM together like bees in world first demonstration

Autonomous pods born in Coventry are now able to swarm together in a world first, thanks to research by WMG at the University of Warwick in partnership with Aurrigo and Milton Keynes council.

With the concept of driverless pods now more realistic than futuristic, the vehicles are one step closer to being put to use, as they can now help each other to drive and navigate through pedestrian areas around people.


Seventy years of crop research at Warwick’s Wellesbourne campus celebrated at industry event

Industry specialists, researchers and staff – past and present – gathered at Warwick’s Wellesbourne campus on 18 December to mark 70 years of crop research on the site.

The meeting heard from a range of speakers who relayed past successes and described work on future developments. Invited keynote speaker and expert in food policy, Professor Tim Lang, spoke about the importance of vegetables in the UK and Sue Kennedy from Elsoms Seeds gave a commercial perspective on vegetable genetics and breeding – past, present and future.


Martin Yardley appointed to role to spearhead the development of the University Of Warwick’s Wellesbourne campus

Martin Yardley, who currently combines the roles of Executive Director of Place at Coventry City Council and the CEO of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, is to join the University of Warwick in a senior business development role.


Department for Transport to give keynote address at WMG’s Very Light Rail Conference

On the 28th November 2019, Steve Berry OBE, Head of Highways Maintenance, Innovation, Resilience, Light Rail and Cableways at the UK Department of Transport will give the keynote address at the Very Light Rail Conference being held at The Slate on the University of Warwick’s campus. He will speak about the potential for Very Light Rail to transform local public transport.


Local residents entertained, challenged and moved by ESRC Festival of Social Science

More than 500 people took part in the workshops, talks and activities organised by the University of Warwick for this year’s ESRC Festival of Social Science. University researchers took to Coventry and Warwickshire’s streets, bars and community centres to share insights from their work with enthusiastic and interested audiences. The events tackled topics from the nature of time itself and the puzzle of DNA to taxes and accents.

Dr Rachel Turner-King and a team of volunteers organised a pop-up Story Garden in Canley Community Centre, with four themed areas of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter representing different aspects of learning.


2018 Men’s Cycle Tour comes through campus: 5 September

For the first time ever, The Men’s Cycle Tour (Tour of Britain) will pass through the University of Warwick campus on Wednesday 5 September. The cyclists will approach campus from Westwood Heath Road, travel up Gibbet Hill Road and head out onto Kenilworth Road in the morning.

This is the first time the route has come to the county. The route for stage 4 will start in Nuneaton and end in Leamington Spa. We expect the race to come through campus between 11.30am - 12 noon on Wednesday 5 September.

Local organisations join forces to support business training needs

The University of Warwick is one of the leading Coventry and Warwickshire organisations which have joined together on a major project to support businesses across the region with education and training.

The Collaborate to Train Coventry and Warwickshire project is part funded by the European Social Fund, and aims to improve the ways in which education providers, local authorities and other stakeholders work together with businesses to provide high quality and effective education and training services in a more collaborative, user-led way.

The project, led by WCG (Warwickshire College Group), is especially targeted at small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and will look at ways to help them get involved in education and training, in particular through providing additional work experience placements, supported internships, apprenticeships and working with schools.

2018 Women’s Cycle Tour comes through campus: 15 June

The 2018 Women’s Cycle Tour will again pass through the University of Warwick campus on Friday 15 June. The cyclists will approach campus from Westwood Heath Road, travel up Gibbet Hill Road and head out on to Kenilworth Road in the morning.

This year, the route for stage 3 will start in Atherstone and end in Leamington Spa. We expect the race to come through campus between 10.30 - 11.00am on Friday 15 June. Warwickshire County Council have provided estimated route timings on their website.

Pint of Science Coventry brings scientists out of the lab and into your local pub

The public science festival, Pint of Science, is coming to Coventry for the first time this year, with experts from the Universities of Warwick and Coventry talking about their research work in a selection of pubs and venues around the city.

WMG data specialists helps streamline production at Warwickshire brewer

Purity Brewing Ltd is a small brewer based on a farm between Studley and Great Alne not far from Stratford upon Avon. Sales continue to boom, which means constantly balancing the production of their beers with growing customer demand. The company turned to the SME team in WMG at the University of Warwick to help develop data systems to manage this complex operation while they get on with brewing the beer.

University of Warwick launches the freeflow Festival

To celebrate a new partnership with The Sunday Times/Peters Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year Award, the University of Warwick has launched the freeflow Festival.

Taking place on Wednesday 29th November 2017, the freeflow Festival is a day packed full of events across campus featuring some of the best names in the literary world including Owen Sheers, Sarah Moss, Natalie Haynes, and Jess Green. In addition, fresh from the Glastonbury stage and a five star run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the poets, rappers, musicians and storytellers - Tongue Fu – will perform at The Assembly in Leamington Spa.


Warwick to showcase business support services to SMEs

The University of Warwick is joining forces with the region’s first Coventry and Warwickshire Business Festival to showcase its range of business support services to SMEs on Monday 20thNovember.

Warwick’s annual Meet the University event aims to inform ambitious businesses of the wide range of SME services the University is able to provide, including research and development, academic expertise, recruiting students, training current staff, hiring facilities and accessing start-up support and funding.


WMG technology helps Midlands cycle company create next generation bicycles for Transport for London

Engineers from WMG, at the University of Warwick, are providing advanced technology support for Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Pashley Cycles, England’s longest established bicycle manufacturer who, with Serco, who this week won the contract to supply the next generation of bicycles for the Transport for London (TfL) Cycle Hire Scheme.

Under the new contract Serco will introduce bicycles, made by Pashley in the company’s home town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, using WMG’s technical support and advice to help create cycles that are 10% lighter than the current model and that are designed to give a more manoeuvrable and comfortable riding experience.

Warwick students help pull three motorbikes, 28 cycles and 40 trolleys from Leamington canal

Students from the University of Warwick were among the volunteers working with the Inland Waterways Association and the Canal and River Trust to clear a stretch of the Grand UnionCanal in Leamington Spa at the weekend.

In addition to tyres, fishing line and plastic bags, the team pulled three motorbikes, 28 bicycles and 40 shopping trolleys from the watery depths, as well as several pushchairs, a pram, a complete ‘Pay and Display’ sign on a pole and the street sign for Llewellyn Road.

WMG to hold special jobs fair to highlight around 200 available roles

The continued success and growth of WMG at the University of Warwick means that we are now looking almost 200 new recruits to join our team. The search is on to find engineers, researchers, project managers, data analysts, software developers, and technicians.

To help with our search we’ll be holding a recruitment open day at our International Digital Laboratory at the University of Warwick on Saturday 16 September 2017.

On the day attendees will have the chance to tour our world-class research facilities, and staff from our various research areas will be on hand to explain what it’s really like working at WMG. There will also be the chance to join a tour of our state-of-the-art research facilities to check out the sort of projects you could work on.


Nuneaton mother inspires family to return to education

A Nuneaton mother who returned to education and graduated from the University of Warwick this week has inspired her whole family to do the same.

Former bank manager, Susan Adcock, 53, has gained a 2:1 in Social Studies through Warwick’s Centre for Life Long Learning. Now her husband, daughter and son have all taken or enrolled on courses at the university too.

After seeing Sue’s achievements, her daughter Sam Jackson, 30, enrolled on the course and has just completed her first year of the same degree, and Sue’s son Scott, 23, will start this year. Husband Michael, 54, has successfully completed the Centre’s Gateway to Higher Education course, a free 18 week programme that allows adult learners to sample what it would be like to return to education without committing to a full degree.

We're partnering with Warwickshire County Council to support the Women's Tour in Warwickshire

Warwickshire County Council announced that, in partnership with the University of Warwick, the county will be hosting Stage Three of the forthcoming Women's Tour on Friday 9 June.

The launch, held at the world class campus of the University of Warwick where the Tour will pass through, was attended by many of the region's top sportswomen including Kenilworth's World and European Champion rider Ciara Horne of the Cervelo Bigla team.


New scheme to help more disadvantaged young people in Warwickshire into Higher Education

The University of Warwick, as a part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) is working with nine schools and colleges across seven wards in Warwickshire to increase participation in higher education.

Evidence collected by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has shown that there are young people in these areas who are achieving the qualifications they need to benefit from higher education, but are not currently doing so.

£3.2m funding for Midlands-based high performance computing centre

The Midlands Innovation group of universities, which includes the University of Warwick, have been awarded £3.2million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to establish HPC Midlands Plus – a centre of excellence in high performance computing (HPC).

New million pound Coventry and Warwickshire Hub for developing advanced lightweight metals

WMG, at the University of Warwick, will be building on its reputation in materials research, as it is set to be a hub for the development and application of advanced lightweight metals, thanks to a £1m Growth Deal award from the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).

The award will create a local network of knowledge, equipment and skills – supporting WMG to share its expertise on steels and other advanced materials with companies in the CWLEP area.
