West Midlands and Warwickshire primary teachers are being offered free foreign language support, thanks to a government grant of almost £100,000 to Warwick to provide professional development for primary school teachers in modern foreign language teaching.

The UK’s Department for Education have given £99,849 to Warwick’s Centre for Professional Education and its Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research to partner with Coventry’s Tile Hill Wood and Howes Primary schools to deliver the programme.

The grant will provide professional development for Modern Foreign Languages with a focus on French writing and grammar for subject leaders and class teachers in the West Midlands and Warwickshire through a blended learning model of face to face and online tuition. The intention is to grow this West Midlands programme to a national programme in 2015-16.

Dr Adam Boddison, the Director of Centre for Professional Education said:

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Tile Hill Wood and Howes Primary Schools to provide professional development for primary school teachers. This project forms part of a portfolio of professional development opportunities being developed by our Centre both in the UK and overseas and will make use of innovative e-learning technology to build a national support programme for primary school teachers.
