If you are around campus this Summer, there are many volunteering opportunities you can get involved in! From helping run an event to supporting older people using IT devices, there's a range of opportunities to choose from.

One-off opportunities : if you can't commit to a regular volunteering activity over the summer but would still like to give some of your time to support local projects.

Regular opportunities : if you would like to volunteer a little every week over the summer.

Kenilworth Arts Festival, 17-23 September

Kenilworth Arts Festival is a week-long gathering of writers, musicians and other creative artists. It is at once a series of unique events and collectively an extraordinary experience. For one week, the historic town of Kenilworth is transformed into a hive of creative exploration through a celebration of art, imagination, innovation and community.

The festival is organised entirely by volunteers. If you are passionate about the arts and about making a positive difference in the local community, they would love to hear from you. There are a range of ways to get involved, to suit your interests, skills and availability.

The Twilight Walk, Sunday 8 October

The Twilight Walk, organised by the Brain Tumor Charity, is a 10K walk taking place on the 8th October around the historic centre of Warwick, with the purpose of uniting the community, raising awareness and raising vital funds.

They are looking for volunteers to help the event run smoothly. There are many different ways that you can get involved in the event. The role that they need the highest number of volunteers for is their Route Steward role. This role is great for those interested in volunteering outdoors and volunteering with friends/family/classmates!

The Route Stewards cheer on, support and motivate the walkers throughout The Twilight Walk route and help the organisers to create an exciting, energetic and enjoyable walking experience. Working as a team with their Section Leaders (staff), volunteers ensure that walkers are safe and looked after throughout the walk.

'Fearsome Craftsmen' Exhibition Volunteers

This summer, the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum are hosting a touring exhibition from the Jorvik Centre in York. Fearsome Craftsmen focuses on how the Vikings lived once they settled in the UK and uses objects such as shoes, jewellery and tools to tell the story of their everyday lives. The are looking for volunteers to help with the following:

Exhibition Interpreter volunteer role: enhance the visitor experience and allow visitors to explore and discover things they would not otherwise get from just looking at objects and reading text panels.

Gallery Volunteer role: assist the Front of House team in making sure visitors enjoy their time in the exhibition, but making sure that the security and safety of the visitors and the exhibits is always maintained.

LWS Night Shelter Volunteers

LWS Night Shelter is a not-for-profit organisation, set up to provide food and shelter for the homeless and vulnerably housed in Leamington Spa and the surrounding area.

They are looking for volunteers to help keep the shelter open. Volunteering is very flexible, and you can choose the role that suits you, whether it's helping with setting up, catering or staying overnight and provide companionship. You won't have to volunteer every week, but the Night Shelter relies on a safe number of volunteers to remain open.

Food Union - Communal work sessions

Since October 2014, the Food Union has been bringing the people of Coventry together around healthier and more sustainable ways of producing and eating food.

Weekly communal work sessions are led by a Food Union representative to complete the carious tasks appropriate to the week/season. Volunteering jobs range from digging, weeding, building structures (like raised beds and sheds) to more technical horticulture. The Food Union has two communal garden sites: the Beake Avenue Allotments and Cultivate CV5 – Sherbourne Valley Allotments. Volunteering sessions usually take place on Tuesday afternoons and occasionaly on the weekends, commitment is flexible.

New Street Nature Park - Gardening sessions

This year the Local community group ARC is holding regular, weekly gardening sessions to maintain New Street Burial Ground in South Leamington.

Sessions take place on Thursday afternoons from 2 - 4pm.

Each week they have a variety of tasks to tidy the site and also discuss any designs or planting plans for the future.

Gloves, refreshments and some tools are provided.
