Queen Mary Partnership

Queen Mary Partnership

This collaboration between Queen Mary University of London and the University of Warwick is an agreement between two universities of substantial strength; both have robust records as providers of high quality education to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Both are counted amongst the leading research-focussed universities in the UK. It also builds on a number of existing areas of academic collaboration in fields such as public health, clinical trials and scientific computing. The two institutions anticipate specific benefits arising from an alliance involving a London institution and one based outside the capital.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Queen Mary University of London and the University of Warwick have created eight new joint Postdoctoral Research Fellows in four interdisciplinary fields of activity:

  • Advances in Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications
Mathematics is an exciting growth area of research in the modern information age. It has an inherently interdisciplinary flavour with roots in pure mathematics, and a wide range of applications in networks, algorithms, etc. Discrete Mathematics is concerned with structures, often finite, that take on discrete values.
  • Ethnicity and Mental Health in Post-War Britain
The Centres for the History of the Emotions at Queen Mary and the History of Medicine at Warwick are currently collaborating on a history of mental health care in post-war Britain. The first stage of this research has been a witness seminar involving leading policy makers, practitioners, and historians.
  • Functional Molecular Materials for Energy and Sensor Applications
New materials are urgently required for next generation coolers, energy saving devices and smart sensors. Such functional materials must respond strongly and reproducibly to applied fields.
  • Renaissance Cultural Networks and Information Technologies, 1300-1800
As two of the leading international and interdisciplinary centres of excellence for Renaissance studies, Queen Mary and Warwick offer a unique and exciting opportunity for two postdoctoral research fellows to develop their own research while helping to strengthen the existing expertise and collaborative links between the two institutions.

Four of the posts will be based at Queen Mary University of London and four will be based at the University of Warwick (one Fellow at each university in each of the four themes noted above). The research fellows will also play a key role in building collaborative links between these two institutions as part of their wider strategic alliance.
