Gibbet Hill Road Closure - Phase 1

During this period, Gibbet Hill Road will be closed between the Kirby Corner Road roundabout and the Gatehouse roundabout.

The roundabouts themselves will be unaffected on weekdays, but work will take place on Kirby Corner roundabout on the following weekends: 16-17 February, 23-24 February.

PLEASE NOTE - Work is due to take place on Kirby Corner roundabout this weekend - Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 February.

Approaching campus from the A45 Fletchamstead Highway/Kirby Corner Road

Car users will be able to gain access to the Westwood campus and University House Car Park 16 but will not be able to enter the campus at the Gatehouse. Access to/exit from Car Park 16 will only be via Kirby Corner Road.

University members who want access to central campus will be able to use the entrance at Lynchgate Road (by the Claycroft residences). This access point will be open between 8am-12pm for incoming traffic and 2pm–7pm for outgoing traffic. There will be no access for vehicles between 12pm-2pm. This route will only be available to University members and will be supervised by a member of staff at all times.

Alternatively, cars will be diverted along the public highways. The diversions will be clearly signposted and maps will be available on the Gibbet Hill Road subsite shortly.

Changes to Bus routes Approaching from a45 Fletchamstead Highway/Kirby Corner Road

Travel Coventry service 12 (Coventry-Coventry Train Station–University of Warwick–Leamington Spa) will divert via A45 Fletchamstead Highway, Kenilworth Road and Gibbet Hill Road entering campus at the Gatehouse roundabout. All bus stops around central campus will be served. Bus stops at the Varsity, Kirby Corner Road and Sir Henry Parkes Road will not be served. A temporary timetable will be in operation during Phase 1.

Service 801 (University of Warwick–University Hospital) will terminate at Cannon Park Shopping Centre (DeMontfort Way) and will not serve Kirby Corner Road, Gibbet Hill Road or central campus. Normal timetable will apply.

Stagecoach Buses new hourly service 16 (Coventry-University-Kenilworth-Warwick-Stratford-Upon-Avon) will set down and pick up at the temporary bus stop near Car Park 2 (roundabout near Hurst, Cryfield and Redfern residences) in both directions (Mondays to Saturdays).

Travel de Courcey Service 43a will terminate on Kirby Corner Rd, at the bus stop near to University House. It will not make drops on central campus as it normally does. The 91, to King Henry VIII & Bablake, which would normally run along the length of the Gibbet Hill Road to the Kenilworth Road, will now be diverted along Kirby Corner Rd and the A45.

Gibbet Hill Road and Kenilworth Road between Gibbet Hill Road and A45 will not be served by Travel de Courcey for the duration of the roadworks.

Approaching campus from the a46/Kenilworth Road/Gibbet Hill

Car users will be able to gain access to central campus only from the Kenilworth Road/Gibbet Hill Road junction.

Note that you will not be able to access car parks 12, 13 and 14 (Westwood Campus) or 16 and 17 (University House) via Gibbet Hill Road. They can be accessed by diverting via the A45/Kirby Corner Road.

Changes to Bus routes Approaching from Kenilworth Road/Gibbet Hill

Travel Coventry service 12 (Leamington – University of Warwick – Coventry Train Station - Coventry) will divert via A45 Fletchamstead Highway, Kenilworth Road and Gibbet Hill Road. All bus stops around central campus will be served. Bus stops at the Varsity, Kirby Corner Road and Sir Henry Parkes Road will not be served. A temporary timetable will be in operation during Phase 1.

Stagecoach buses U1/U2 (Sydenham - Leamington - A46 - University of Warwick) will not be affected between Monday and Saturday and will take the route through campus as usual. On Sundays, the U2 service both towards Coventry and towards Leamington will set down and pick up at the temporary bus stop near the Car Park 2 roundabout.

All road users should be aware that there will be increased traffic on the roads during this period caused by the diversions.
