Science has made spectacular progress in understanding the 'outer world' of physics, chemistry and biology. But will science ever penetrate the 'inner world' of our own minds, to uncover our hidden motives, beliefs, and who we really are? And how far can the science of the mind help us understand ourselves and each other?
Join presenter Michael Blastland, Warwick's own Nick Chater, Professor of Behavioural Science at Warwick Business School, and the rest of the team from Radio 4's The Human Zoo programme to find out more. Expect a lively panel discussion and interactive audience experiments.

Michael Blastland
Michael Blastland is a writer and broadcaster. Now freelance, he worked for the BBC for nearly 17 years, for whom his programme credits include devising Radio 4’s More or Less with Andrew Dilnot, The Human Zoo, which he presents, and writing and producing A History of Britain in Numbers, also with Andrew Dilnot. He has written three books: The Tiger that Isn’t, a best-selling guide to numbers in the news, also with Andrew; Joe, the Only boy in the World, a story of his son’s autism combined with a range of medical and philosophical perspectives about what autism is; and The Norm Chronicles - stories and numbers about danger, with David Spiegelhalter. He lectures and presents widely on data, statistics and journalism.

Professor Nicholas Chater
Nick Chater is Professor of Behavioural Science at Warwick Business School. He joined Warwick Business School in 2010, after holding chairs in psychology at Warwick and UCL. He is particularly interested in the cognitive and social foundations of rationality and language. He has over 200 publications, has won four national awards for psychological research, and has served as Associate Editor for the journals Cognitive Science, Psychological Review, and Psychological Science.
He was elected a Fellow of the Cognitive Science Society in 2010 and a Fellow of the British Academy in 2012. Nick is co-founder of the research consultancy Decision Technology; and is on the advisory board of the Cabinet Office's Behavioural Insight Team (BIT), popularly known as the 'Nudge Unit'. He presents the Massive Open On-Line Course (MOOC), The Mind is Flat, on the Futurelearn platform; and he is the resident psychologist at Radio 4’s The Human Zoo.
