Kate Hughes – Partnerships Director (External Affairs)
Kate currently holds the role of Partnerships Director (External Affairs) and leads the Business Engagement team, developing integrated management and research-related services for effective collaboration and partnership with business and industry
Kate was Director of Research Support Services at the University of Warwick, managing the University's externally funded research and related knowledge transfer activity, for 7 years to 2008 after joining Warwick in September 2001. Kate's background in research management and administration in Higher Education spans almost 20 years, at the Universities of Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield Hallam and at Henley Management College. Prior to that, working for the accountants, KMG Thomson McLintock, and as they merged to form KPMG Peat Marwick, as the north-east Management Consultancy Partnership’s Administrator.

Sam leads business collaboration in the fields of Energy and Sustainable Cities, supporting the University’s Global Research Priorities in these areas.
Sam has worked at the interface between academia and industry for ten years; during this time he has led high tech start-ups and built strong relationships with industrial partners, including leading on the University’s strategic alliance with National Grid. Sam supported the development of and now project manages Warwick’s contribution to FlexDGrid, a £17m project led by Western Power Distribution and funded through Ofgem’s Low Carbon Network Fund.
In addition to these UK-based activities Sam heads up the University’s corporate engagement activities in Brazil relating to energy and urban science, and supports business collaborations in Warwick’s partnership in the Center for Urban Science and Progress in New York. Sam has a BSc in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Virology from the University of Warwick.

Dr Debbie Girdlestone - Sector Lead (Life Sciences)
Debbie is the Life Sciences Business Lead, responsible for the University’s collaborative relationships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nutraceutical companies.
Debbie has worked in the biomedical sector for twenty years, both in multinational company R&D and in business development. She has a long experience of managing strategic alliances between industry, academia and not-for-profit organisations. Debbie has served as the Editor of Trends in Pharmacological Sciences and as Executive Director of a successful start-up, as well as holding a number of appointments on international advisory boards.
She has a BSc in biochemistry from Manchester and a PhD in physiology from Leeds. She is also accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Dr Andrew Todd - Sector Lead (Regional)
Andrew supports the economic impact of the University on the regional economy.
Andrew’s role includes engaging with key external partners (such as the West Midlands Combined Authority and West Midlands Growth Company, Midlands Engine and Sustainability West Midlands); facilitating local growth activities and connecting regional businesses to Warwick’s research and expertise.
Andrew also leads on the regional aspects of Warwick’s response to the government’s Industrial Strategy.
