About

Kayoko studied Aesthetics and Art History at Keio University in Tokyo where she began her doctoral studies. Before moving to Warwick, she studied at the University of Siena for a year. She has recently completed her PhD thesis on the formation of Marian civic identity in Sienese art in the later thirteenth century focusing on the reconstructed altarpiece including the Madonna del Voto, the Coronation of the Virgin, and the narrative panels attributed to Dietisalvi di Speme and Guido da Siena.

Research interests

Kayoko’s main research interest is the historical and intellectual context of the development of Sienese pictorial narrative cycles before and after Duccio’s Maestà with a special focus on the interaction between Siena, northern Europe, and the Mediterranean east. Further Information
