Royal Court Theatre

In March 2013 the Royal Court Theatre put on a new play "The Low Road" by Bruce Norris. The play was set in revolutionary America and I spent an afternoon with the cast during rehearsals talking to them about the environment of colonial America and specifically about slavery which was a central part of the play.

Jamaica talks June 2010

I talked on marronage in the United States in Jamaica in June 2010. The conference was held in an existing maroon community, Charlestown, and many members of the maroon community came to listen to the papers. The event was part of a project to disseminate current academic research on marronage to living maroons. This talk emerged from research undertaken for my book, Maroon Communities in South Carolina: A Documentary Record (Columbia, SC: University of South Carolina Press, 2009)

Public talk in Beaufort, SC Nov. 2009

I talked to an audience of local people in Beaufort, SC, including many school age children on the subject of maroons in South Carolina. The event was sponsored by the Beaufort County Library and part of their ongoing mission to make academic research accessible to local people. This talk emerged from research undertaken for my book, Maroon Communities in South Carolina: A Documentary Record (Columbia, SC: University of South Carolina Press, 2009)
