English & Theatre Studies Interview Days - FAQs

On this page you will find answers to a range of questions relating to your interview day at the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies. If you cannot find the answer to your question please contact us at englishadmissions@warwick.ac.uk.

Can I choose the date and time of my interview?

We hope that you will be able to attend on the day(s) that we schedule. The day is not just an interview - it will also give you an opportunity to explore the campus and talk to current students and staff in an informal setting. (You can find out here about the experiences of current Warwick students.) If you have any specific requirements for the time of your interview on the day (for example, because you have travelled a long way), please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate any requests we receive. Due to the number of alterations which are often made up until the last minute, we are unable to confirm the time of your interview in advance of the interview day.

I am out of the country/have an exam on the interview days. What are my options?

Please register online, as per the instructions in the interview email, and we will contact you to discuss arranging an interview by phone, online, or possibly an alternative date on campus. Please note that this will not jeopardise your chances in the application process.

Can I bring my parents/carers to my interview?

You can be accompanied to the Introductory Meeting, but you cannot take anyone into the interview with you. Any visitors who accompany interviewees are encouraged to have a look around the campus during the interview period or to wait in one of the various cafes situated on campus. Space in the department is limited and so we ask that only interviewees come to the English department (5th Floor, Faculty of Arts Building) during the interview period.

What should I wear?

There is no dress code and no need to dress formally; wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

When will I hear from the department following my interview?

We will try to give you a decision as soon as possible after the interview. Please be patient, as if you do not hear from us it means that you are still under consideration. As with all universities, official decisions are notified through UCAS.

How can I prepare for my interview?

Your interview is a conversation about your literary and theatrical interests, with your personal statement as a starting point. Each interview is therefore different, and tailored to you as an individual. There is nothing specific you need to do to prepare, but expect to be asked about the literary works you have studied or have read beyond the syllabus, and the other interests you mention on your personal statement. You may be asked to do a close reading of an extract; this will be communicated to you on your interview day. Please remember that the interview day is for us to find out more about you, and for you to ask questions and find out information to help you choose wisely about your future.

How do I get to campus?

The central university pages have details on how to get to campus, maps for finding your way around, and also information on other local towns, including Kenilworth, Stratford-upon-Avon, Coventry, and Birmingham. Warwick Arts Centre and the Students Union have their own websites.

What precautions have the university put in place due to Covid-19?

You can find out more about the university's Covid safety measures on the Safety on Campus website.
