London Film School

The Department of Film and Television Studies is very proud to announce an exciting and ground-breaking collaboration with the world-renowned London Film School.

Students on the BA Film Studies degree are now able to apply for a place on a specialist third-year module in Film Production. Students will receive tuition in screenwriting directing, editing, cinematography and sound recording, and at the end of the module each student will produce a short film, using the skills they have learned and drawing upon the skills of their classmates.

The module is delivered by London Film School staff at Warwick and makes use of our new purpose-built edit suite and set of state of the art filmmaking equipment.

The Department has been validating the London Film School MA programme since the beginning of 2016 and we anticipate a whole set of innovative collaborations emerging between the two institutions over the coming years.

Since 1956, the London Film School has offered a world renowned independent film conservatorie education, with an illustrious list of alumni including Michael Mann, Mike Leigh, and Duncan Jones. Find out more about the London Film School here.

Film Production (FI331)

This third year module will give you the opportunity to work on a self-devised short fiction film as a major final project.

  • Receive tuition in the practical skills of film direction, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, lighting and sound from experienced London Film School tutors.
  • Learn about the logistics of location planning, legals, budget and scheduling.
  • Over the course of a year you will develop a viable film treatment and script.
  • Work in groups of 3 - 4 to realise your final short film project.
  • Utilize the Warwick Film and TV Studies editing suite, a purpose-built facility based around Adobe Premiere editing machines and Canon C200 4K cameras.

Dictynna Hood - Module leader

Dictynna’s first feature film as director/writer, Wreckers, stars Claire Foy and Benedict Cumberbatch. Wreckers premiered at the London Film Festival 2011, won a Silver George at Moscow 2012 and is in distribution worldwide. Prior to this, she directed multi-award winning short films The Other Man with Anna Maxwell Martin, and Journey Man, with Ruth Madoc. In 2010 she was a selected writer on both the Re-Animate and I-Features development schemes. She has been awarded a Wellcome Grant to develop her feature script Storyteller following on the short animation Through the Hawthorn which she scripted. She is currently in post production on her second feature, This Family, with Laurence Fox and Anna Calder-Marshall.

Hamid Ahmadi - Cinematography Tutor

Hamid is a director and cinematographer born in Tehran. He received a BA in directing for cinema from Beh Andish film school. Since then, he has worked on many film projects as cinematographer. He worked as an assistant to renowned Iranian cinematographer Mahmoud Kalari on several projects and was taught by the legendary Abbas Kiarostami in series of his workshops in Tehran. His first feature length film as cinematographer, “Soog” (Mourning), received positive reactions in acclaimed
festivals around the world, including Netpac Jury Award from Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2011, Award for “most inventive film” from Cinedays Festival 2014 and New Currents & Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prizes from Pusan International Film Festival 2011.

In 2011 he relocated to London to to study filmmaking, where he wrote and directed 4 films and shot 6 more as cinematographer. In 2015, he was selected for the Berlinale Talent programme in the 65th Berlin Film Festival. His graduation film “In the Hills” won Deuxième Prix, Cinéfondation at the 69th Cannes Film
Festival 2016, Best Narrative Short from Oscar Qualifying Atlanta Film Festival 2017 and Selected to compete for the best short film in 41st Toronto International Film
Festival 2016 and many more festivals throughout 2016 and 2017. He currently teaches Visual Storytelling and Cinematography workshops at the London Film School.
