Michaela, mother of two (born 2009 and 2011), hometown Stratford-upon-Avon

I wanted a home birth with both babies, really didn't want to go to hospital but ended up at Warwick hospital with my first child as my waters broke and baby had poo'd so I needed to go to hospital, after really not wanting to go the whole experience was brilliant, I had a very quick birth, birthing plan completly out of the window. My husband was with me the whole time and was an amazing support, he cut the cord both times and was so calm and brilliant. I chose not to have drugs throughout my labour and used yoga breathing for pain control and at the very end a couple of puffs of gas and air, however I retained my placenta and had to go to surgery where I had a spinal!!! The midwives were amazing.

Second baby was born at home as planned in a birthing pool in our lounge, whilst our toddler was asleep upstairs. Quick birth and my husband was with me and again did an amazing job I don't think I could do it without him. The midwives again were fantastic and the home birth was just brilliant, so great to be at home, makes it seems even more personal and special if that's at all possible. If there is a number three then it would be a home birth.
