25 October 2016: Mathew Thomson delivered the paper: '"The Closest Thing to a Religion"? The Cultural History of the NHS' at the German Historical Institute, London.

18th October 2016: The NHS Team are presenting papers on their research at the Centre for the History of Medicine Seminar Series, Warwick University.

29 September 2016: Mathew Thomson, Jack Saunders and Jennifer Crane delivered a panel talk on ‘The Cultural History of the NHS: Challenges, Strategies and Speculations Emerging from a Team Project’ at the Modern British History Seminar held at the IHR, London.

15 September 2016: 'History and the NHS Workshop', Society for Social Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting at the Exhibition Centre, University of York.

11th August 2016: We held an evening public panel discussion on ‘A National Religion? Activism, Public Opinion and the NHS’ at the People's History Museum in Manchester.

21st July 2016: As part of the Thackray Museum’s ‘Celebration of the NHS’ in Leeds this July, members of our team hosted a panel discussion asking ‘What would a museum of the NHS look like?'

18th July 2016: Roberta Bivins gave a talk to Leamington's branch of Cafe Scientifique on 'Science Research in the NHS'.

8th July 2016: Jane Hand gave a paper entitled 'Advertising, gender and the place of consumerism in health education programmes in Britain, 1950s-1980s at the Social History of Medicine Bi-annual Conference held at Kent University.

27th June 2016: Jenny Crane and George Gosling contributed to a session at the Cabinet Office, Whitehall, co-hosted by Queen Mary’s Mile End Institute and the Policy Lab team. This session will bring together historians and civil servants, including officials from the Office for Civil Society, to discuss how academics and policy-makers can relate, and also current contexts in state-voluntary sector relations.

23rd-24th June 2016: Jane Hand contributed to the Balancing the Self conference at the University of Exeter, a two-day interdisciplinary conference aimed at critically investigating the historical narratives attached to self-help.

15 June 2016 Roberta Bivins joined the Dunchurch Ladies Choir to talk about the ‘People’s History of the NHS’.

1st June 2016 Jenny Crane co-organised (with Dr Eve Colpus) a witness seminar about the history of ChildLine, and its significance for children's health, welfare, services and policy. This was held at the BT Tower, and funded by the Wellcome Trust and the University of Southampton. Prominent speakers included former and present leaders at ChildLine (Dame Esther Rantzen, Sue Minto, Baroness Valerie Howarth, Mary MacLeod), policy-makers in children's services (the Children's Commissioner Anne Longfield) and historians including Professor Mathew Thomson from NHS History. This event has given the team food for thought about the changing contexts of children's health, and also about how to memorialise and celebrate the Anniversary of an institution - pertinent as the NHS approaches its 70th in 2018.

7th May 2016: Roberta Bivins presented a paper at People-Powered Medicine: A one day symposium investigating public participation in medicine and healthcare: 1800 to present at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.

21 March 2016: Four members of our Team presented on a 'Cultural History of the National Health Service' panel at the Social History Society Conference, Lancaster University.

16 February 2016: Roberta Bivins joined a community panel at the Modern Records Centre to discuss 'NHS:Past and Futures'. The event was accompanied by an exhibition exploring 'The Politics of Healthcare in Britain'. Visit our blog to read about this event.

18th November 2015: Jane Hand gave the paper 'Screening the National Health Service: Approaching a Cultural History through Moving Pictures' at the History and Public Health Seminar at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

13th October 2015: Roberta Bivins delivered the paper 'Highly coloured': race, ethnicity and the NHS at the History of Modern Medicine and Biology Seminar at the University of Cambridge.

27th June 2015: Mathew Thomson presented the paper 'Privacy and the Cultural History of the NHS' at the Privacy, Literacy and the Self: Conference in Honour of David Vincent at the Open University in London.
