Research Funding Information

Researchers in the History of Medicine have many options when it comes to funding. The Centre for the History of Medicine itself, the Department of History, the University of Warwick, and external funders such as the Wellcome Trust, AHRC, ESRC have individual schemes to support students at MA, PhD and Postdoctoral levels.

The Wellcome Trust currently allows us to nominate one applicant for an MA studentship in the History of Medicine annually. Undergraduates interested in the MA are encouraged to contact the Centre for more information.

Doctoral studentships providing up to three years of funding are also available from the Wellcome Trust. Candidates must have completed, or be registered on, a Master's in the History of Medicine or a Master's of 'equivalent standing' to be eligible.

Postdoctoral researchers can apply to the Wellcome Trust Research Fellowships. This scheme supports individuals at all stages of their career not in established academic posts, wishing to undertake a period of research. Please note: Initial Preliminary application required, successful candidates will then be invited by the Trust to complete a Final Application. BA

The British Academy (BA) offer funding for Postdoctoral Fellows. General funding information can also be found on their website: General Information

Part of the Mission Statement for the Economic Social Research Council (ESRC) is to support postgraduate training in the social sciences. Funding is available for linked Master's/PhD awards (1+3) and three-year PhD (+3) studentships. Please be advised that these applications are administered through Warwick's ESRC Doctoral Training Centre, based on your initial applications for MA/PhD study. Please contact the History PG and Research Coordinator for further information.

Leverhulme

The Leverhulme Trust offer funding for Postdoctoral Fellows. General funding information can also be found on their web: General Information. The Department of History has internal application procedures and we therefore advise you contact the History PG and Research Coordinator for further information.

Warwick

The Centre for the History of Medicine is able to offer one bursary for students applying for 2017-18 admission to the MA in the History of Medicine. This will cover fees at the Home-EU rate. To be considered for an award, please submit an online University application by 18 January 2017.

Candidates should also produce a short c.v. (maximum two pages) and a two-page proposal outlining their potential dissertation topic, their research questions, and an indication of the sources to be drawn on to pursue their dissertation project. In addition, the History Department will offer a number of Departmental MA Bursaries for 2017/18 admission to outstanding candidates. These will cover fees at the Home-EU rate and provide a maintenance stipend of approximately £10,000. Both overseas and Home/EU students are eligible to apply. To apply please submit a University online application by 18 January 2017 (no separate form is required).

The History Department will be awarding three doctoral scholarships to students applying for Autumn 2016-17. The awards will cover fees at the Home-EU rate and provide an annual stipend. They will be available to both Home/EU and overseas candidates applying for full-time study in any field suitable for supervision by the Department. In order to be considered for a departmental doctoral award, you must submit a University online application form by 18 January 2016. The University of Warwick offers every year a number of Chancellors Scholarships (previously WPRS) which provide funding for three years PhD Study. Further information and the online application form for this scheme, can be found via the Academic Office.
