Taught in the spring term, this 15 CATS module is compulsory for those second-year students taking the 'Renaissance and Modern History' pathway of the single-honours History course.

Context

The module supports students' Italian language study and prepares them for their final-year term of study in Venice and for further study.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, the student should be able to:

• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of sources for the study of Renaissance Italy
• appreciate the practicalities of historical research using Italian sources
• critically assess a diverse range of primary source material
• produce a piece of research-based work
• present a research report to their peers

• develop competency in using electronic resources

Teaching Arrangements

The module is taught via 7 x 1-hour lectures, and 7 x 1-hour and 2 x 2-hour seminars. Seminar attendance is obligatory.

Lectures are held in B2.02 (Science Concourse) at 10.00 on Fridays in Weeks 1-5 and 7-8 of Term 2.

Seminar Group 1 meets in H2.44 at 12.00 on Fridays in Weeks 1-5 and 7-8 of Term 2.

Seminar Group 2 meets in H0.03 at 1.00 on Fridays in Weeks 1-5 and 7-8 of Term 2.

Student presentations take place in H1.48 from 12.00 to 2.00 on Fridays in Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 2.

Assessment
