The Retrospectives editorial team is pleased to announce the call for papers for its Spring 2016 issue. Those wishing to submit articles should note that the deadline for these will be Friday 20th November 2015.

  • Retrospectives is dedicated to the publication of original, peer-reviewed refereed articles and book reviews by postgraduate students within any historical era from classical antiquity to the present day. It specialises on early modern to contemporary history, with a focus on the ‘non-traditional’ aspects and other aspects reflected in the University of Warwick’s research community.
  • The journal tends to specialise in historical streams ranging from the early-modern to contemporary, with a particular penchant for work that demonstrates ‘non-traditional’ and inspired historical approaches, reflecting that characteristic style particular to the University of Warwick’s research community; our renowned and praised brand of progressive history.
  • We are also accepting book reviews, ranging between 500 to 1000 words. Review articles, addressing two to four books with a common theme, can be between 1500 to 4000 words.
  • We request that all papers submitted for publication should be between 4500 to 7500 words, including footnotes/endnotes and bibliography.
  • We are also accepting book reviews, ranging between 500 to 1000 words. Review articles, addressing two to four books with a common theme, can be between 1500 to 4000 words.
  • All papers should be submitted using British spellings, except for direct quotations.
  • All script should be in Times New Roman font, size 12. All headers/footers should be in Times New Roman, size 10.
  • Submissions must NOT have been submitted to any other publication before, during, or after the actual submission to Retrospectives.

Those wishing to submit book reviews should address them to e.w.geall@warwick.ac.uk. This year the Book Review Editor has compiled a diverse list of potential - and recently-published - monographs as a guideline for those who would like to submit a book review but are unsure of a particular text. This can be found HERE. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, that submissions of other works are encouraged and that these will be judged on their own merits.

The University of Warwick History Department employs the MHRA (Modern Humanities Research Association) Style Guide. Please see the links below for more information on how to format your submission. Submissions that do not follow the MHRA Style Guide will NOT be considered.
