Summary

Level:

You might have already finished 150 hours of tuition or completed a lower-intermediate course and feel comfortable talking in more demanding but familiar situations with some preparation. You now want to increase your confidence by extending the range of contexts in which you use the language and further develope your fluency, as well as reading comprehension. The course will demand more of you by way of vocabulary learning and extending your understanding of the grammar of the language.

Main Objectives:

You will learn to communicate in a wide range of social contexts and talk with reasonable confidence with increased vocabulary. This course will help you to improve your listening, reading, speaking competence. You will also be able to construct more sophisticated sentences and write more characters. You will further develop your understanding of Chinese society and culture and begin to discuss certain aspects of this.

Teaching:

1 x 2 hour class per week plus some independent learning.

Course Description

This course is based on the textbook "Discover China Student's book 2” (unit 9-12) and "Discover China Student's book 3” (unit 1-2). The teaching will not only focus on improving oral fluency, listening, but also improving reading skills by introducing reading texts of gradually increased complexity. The topics will be moving slowly from general ‘survival Chinese” to more specific college courses and library related. At this level, Chinese characters will be in use in teaching mainly, so that students should be able to recognize them. Specific culture background will be given to help students understand the language. Students will be supported by abundant resources including workbook, Mp3 downloads, extra speaking activities and other online materials.

Homework will be given after each session to enable you to reinforce and practice the language learnt in class.

  • Expressing result of an action with 到;

  • Expressing immediate actions with (就)要……了

  • Expressing duration of an action;

  • The auxiliary words 的、得、地;

  • Talking about results using resultative complements;

  • Talking about the future using 将、会;

  • Various constructions.
