Entry requirements for undergraduate study

Course A level typical offer International Baccalaureate Essential subjects
Theatre and Performance Studies (W440) AAB 36 points We prefer Theatre Studies/Drama at A Level, but we consider all subject combinations including English Literature, Art & Design, History, Sociology or science subjects. If your school or college does not offer Theatre Studies/Drama, this should be made clear on your application.
English and Theatre Studies (QW34) AAB + AS Level B in a fourth subject 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English Advanced or Higher level qualifications in English Literature, normally grade A (predicted or achieved). A level English Language is acceptable in addition to English Literature, but is not normally acceptable as a substitute. Combined A level English Language/Literature is acceptable, providing evidence of wider reading in literature is shown in your Personal Statement.
French with Theatre Studies (R1W4) ABB 34 points including 6 in Higher Level French. A level or Higher Level qualifications in French.
German and Theatre Studies (RW24) ABB 36 points including 6 in Higher level German A level or Higher Level qualifications in German.
Italian with Theatre Studies (R3W4) ABB 34 points A level/Higher Level Italian not required. Candidates normally offer a foreign language at A/Advanced Higher/ IB Higher Level, but if this is not possible, other evidence of competence in the study of foreign languages will be considered.


Offers normally exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking. Critical Thinking is normally accepted to AS Level only.

Access course entry requirements: Access to Higher Education Diploma (QAA recognised) including appropriate subjects with distinction grades in level 3 units. Substantial study of literature is essential.
