Performing Gender and Sexuality Assessment

All forms of assessment for this module need to contain three elements. Firstly, your thinking on the issues raised by the assignment in the form of a proposition or thesis which stands as the centrepiece of the argument that you are making. This proposition is then explained in relation to two things: relevant academic debate around the key conceptual frameworks and theoretical ideas explored in the module and the use of illustrative examples from the disciplines of theatre studies and/or performance studies.

Portfolios: using one or more conceptual ideas explored in the module, actively engage with contemporary ideas of the performance of gender and sexuality in the area of social performance. You should engage with two recent illustrative examples in your portfolio.

Essays: in your essay you should utilise the criteria stated above. In addition, each student will agree the topic of their essay in an individual meeting with me which will set out the terms of reference of what is going to be looked at and agree specific criteria for each student. For a 3000-word essay, you should engage with three or four illustrative examples from the disciplines of theatre studies and/or performance studies.

Project-based assessment - this will involved the creation of an artefact - brochure, exhibation or installation plan etc. Again, there will be agreed with me in week 9 of term 2. You have the opportunity to do a 4000 word essay in place of the project-based assessment.
