Natalie Diddams

I am a theatre director, practitioner and teacher based in Manchester. As a director, I have a large number of productions under my belt including New Anatomies (BAC), His Dark Materials and Spring Awakening the Musical (both Royal & Derngate). Last year, I won the RoutesNorth Award with my tour of My Brother’s Country (The Lowry, ARC and Theatre in the Mill) and I am currently developing a comedy with a twist based on Aristophanes’ Thesmophoriazusae (you can read more about this on my blog: thesmoblog.wordpress.com), commissioned by Theatre in the Mill and University of Bradford. I am currently also Second Director on the international B!RTH Festival at the Royal Exchange Theatre (www.birthdebate.co.uk). As an academic, I am an Associate Lecturer and PhD student at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I teach modules on Acting and Shakespeare and work alongside Professor Gabrielle Ivinson researching the transformative nature of comedy in sparking debate and raising social consciousness around women’s issues.
