Postgraduate Conference 2017

CIM Postgraduate Conference 2017: Data Ex Machina

CIM pgc image

Does data out of the machine help us
become actors playing God,
fly through the air,
reduce uncertainty,
take risks, find joy and ask questions?

Join us on the stage to play the non-divine character.
Which machine—interface, software, platform, device, service—elevates or brings you down?
Are you into or out of the machine?
What issues agitate you?

How will the event work?

The event will be in the form of what we are calling a ‘framing machine of collective cognition’. The presenters will be invited to join a group of profane data boosters, sceptics, resistors, ready to frame and reframe your doubts and cogitations into and out of the machine. Trading will be a connecting part. In the beginning of each session, every participant will get a colour token. This token shows which table to join. Are you interested in another topic? That is when trading starts. Talk to others and achieve the colour you want.

What will this mean for your participation?

Discussions will take place in sub-groups of 5-10 individuals. Each sub-group will have several presenters gathered together based on their research themes.

Topics at the conference include:
Machines of Knowing
Disclosing Infrastructures
Order and Infrastructures
Out of the Machine
Methods of Knowing
