Methods of Discourse Analysis

Professor Johannes Angermuller and Dr Ronny Scholz
Wednesday 10th May 2017 - 10am to 5pm

Discourse Analysis investigates the social production of meaning.

In this workshop, which is organised by Professor Johannes Angermuller and his collaborators, we will have a morning session with an overview of discourse approaches and a discussion of methodological challenges in discourse analysis.

In the afternoon, students can choose between various methodological approaches to text and talk, including quantitative and qualitative methods (such as corpus analysis, conversation analysis, interviews, coding). Dr Ronny Scholz will run a workshop on corpus analysis, Sixian Hah on conversation analysis, Johannes Beetz and Veit Schwab on discourse as a semiotic practice, Marta Wroblewska on coding and genre analysis, Eduardo Chavez on interviews.

This one-day workshop is open to students with a background in the social sciences and humanities who want to study discourse within a qualitative and/or quantitative research design.
