History at the Higher Education Academy

November/December Bulletin

The 12th Teaching and Learning in History Conference will take place at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford from 23-25 March 2010. We are now accepting proposals for papers, panels and workshops on all aspects of the scholarship of teaching and learning in History. Please contact us at the address below if you would like more information or want to offer a paper. In 2010 we shall be celebrating ten years of the National Teaching Fellowship scheme. History as a discipline is under-represented in the total number of National Teaching Fellows. The History Subject Centre will advise on applications to the scheme and also has good links with current History NTFs who are also able to offer information and advice. Nominations for 2010 are now open and close on 3rd February.

Supporting High Achievement and Transition to Higher Education Through History Virtual Academies

This resource is the final report of a teaching development grant project on issues relating to first-year transition of university history students. It suggests that the discussion boards through which exercises of this kind operate, provide a very valuable research tool that can inform thinking about both student ideas and teaching and learning in history.
