First Postgraduate/ECR MITN Seminar and Masterclass

Inaugural MITN Postgraduate/ECR Virtual Seminar and Masterclass

To mark MITN's launch, and to begin to connect MITN PhDs/early career researchers, we'll be hosting a half-day series of events on Thursday, Aug. 13th, from 8:00-12:00 (at Warwick) /18:00-21:00 (at Monash). The venue at Warwick is Humanities Building room H0.86 in the Transnational Resources Centre; the Monash venue is the International Portal, room B461, Building H (Caulfield Campus).

The events will be conducted through videoconferencing systems to allow participants at Monash and at Warwick to meet each other, share short presentations on their research interests and current work, and to participate in a virtual masterclass led by incoming MITN co-lead Jo Angouri. The masterclass will be focused on methodological issues relating to data collection and fieldwork (broadly defined) in interdisciplinary contexts. The masterclass will be tailored to the research of the participants and will help shape future MITN events and projects. This discussion will form the basis of generating research clusters and projects, and will allow us to begin moving towards distinctive MITN approaches to interdisciplinary scholarship.

Schedule of Events:
  • 8:00-9:00 (Warwick)/17:00-18:00 (Monash): Informal refreshments.
  • 9:00-10:00 (Warwick)/18:00-19:00 (Monash): Introductions and short (approx. 5 minutes) informal summaries of individual research projects/interests by participants, followed by a group discussion on developing research clusters (chaired by Dr Gabriel Garcia-Ochoa, MITN Monash Steering Committee Member)
  • 10:00-11:00 (Warwick)/19:00-20:00 (Monash): Masterclass and discussion of data collection/fieldwork in interdisciplinary contexts, led by Dr Jo Angouri (Academic Co-Lead, Warwick)
  • 11:00-12:00 (Warwick)/20:00-21:00 (Monash): Wrap-up discussions and networking session.
