Laboratory-based projects

  • For laboratory based projects in the Division of Biomedical Sciences, self-funded PhD students are expected to provide £10,000 per annum for consumables.

PhD by Published Work

  • Students registered for a PhD by Published Work will be liable to pay one full year's fees (even if their period of registration is the minimum 6 months).

Funding Opportunities & Scholarships

University of Warwick Funding

The University offers various funded studentships & Scholarships opportunities. The Doctoral College advertises all off these opportunities on its website here. In particular, applications for the Chancellor's International scholarship are currently open, with the following deadlines:

Course application deadline - 12 December 2023

Scholarship application deadline – 14 December 2023

Supporting documents deadline – 9 January 2024

China Scholarship Council Studentship

Applications for the China Scholarship Council (CSC) studentships at Warwick will open on 10 November 2023, with a deadline of 16 January 2024. Current international students in their first year are also eligible to apply. Awards made for entry in Autumn 2024 will include:

  • The full payment of tuition fees
  • A maintenance stipend and return international airfare between the UK and China for successful applicants.

Successful candidates will be required to return to China after completing their PhD.

MRC Doctoral Training Partnership

The MRC DTP in a nutshell

Our MRC DTP programme in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research is a 1+3 MSc/PhD programme.

Our innovative training will give you the opportunity to gain intellectual and practical skills to become part of the next generation of well-rounded biomedical research leaders.

You will follow an MSc course combining taught modules and laboratory-based research projects and, upon successful completion, progress onto a 3 year PhD in the areas of molecular, cellular and tissue dynamics, microbiology and infection, applied biomedical technologies or artificial intelligence and data science.

Warwick A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP)

The Warwick - A*STAR Research Attachment Programme offers fully funded 4 year PhD studentships in Molecular Cell Biology and Microbiology, with students spending 2 years at Warwick and 2 years in Singapore at an A*STAR institute.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Centre

The University of Warwick is one of only 21 institutions to be awarded a national Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

Established in 2011 Warwick's ESRC DTC covers 20 subject areas (pathways) across the social sciences, providing financial and research support to a number of students looking to improve their skills and knowledge through postgraduate study. 27 postgraduate studentships are awarded annually from a large number of outstanding applicants. The studentships are linked to disciplinary and inter-disciplinary training pathways, and some studentships have a built-in element of collaboration.
