James Van Hinsbergh

About Me

I am a postgraduate researcher for the Department of Computer Science based in Senate House under the Warwick Institute for the Science of Cities (WISC). In July 2016, I graduated with a from the University of Warwick with an MEng in Computer Science. I am working under Dr. Nathan Griffiths and Dr. Abhir Bhalerao, in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover to develop new machine learning techniques for use in intelligent automobiles and transportation infrastructure.

Research

My research will focus on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication, combining machine learning techniques to enable improvements in multiple areas, most notably safety and efficient driving. There exists a wealth of data available from sensors both inside and outside the vehicle, which constitutes several challenges with respect to obtaining useful data in a timely manner. Learning methods for V2V/V2X data will be developed, facilitating cooperative information sharing, with the functionality to assess the trust and reputation of information sources.

Office

My office is located over in Senate House, and can be found here. Please use the main doors to Senate House, using the staircase behind the white doors. Then enter the doors marked North Wing.

Please email ahead to confirm a meeting, as I may not be around.

SSLC

I am a representative on the CDT Urban Science and Progress SSLC. Members of the CDT can contact me directly (in person or via email) if they have any issues that should be raised.

Teaching

I am involved with teaching the following modules for the 2016/17 academic year:
