James Brixey

I am James Brixey, recently a graduate from the Masters in Maths and Physics at Warwick (FG31). I am currently in the masters year of the Diamond Science center for doctoral training at warwick, which will lead to a PhD in Multiscale modelling of the effects of defects on the mechanical properties of Diamond. To unpack this: We have a crack propagating in diamond. We can model it at multiple scales, allowing a trade off between accuracy of the result and efficiency of the computation. Now I will be dealing with the change in mechanical property when there is a defect (some atom that is not carbon, i.e. a hydrogen) inside the diamond. I shall be supervised by James Kermode, and I have mini projects in Nottingham, with John Goss, and London imperial college.

I am interested in maths, and in the interface between the world of maths and the real world, using maths as machinery to describe what we see and experience around us. I joined this PhD program in order to continue pursuing this interest.

My hobbies include (but are not limited to) reading, playing violin and Juggling.
