Mark was born in Dudley, England, in 1988. He joined Warwick University and an undergraduate in 2007, after taking a year out of education to gain work experience. He graduated in the summer of 2011 with a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering and began a PhD in association with Jaguar land Rover at the same institution later in the year. Mark’s PhD involves researching ways to optimise the control of automobile sub-systems. He is one of two first year PhD students on the current student staff liaison committee (SSLC), and is also the current chair.

During his undergraduate Mark was involved the European Student Moon Orbiter (ESMO) project, which seeks to launch a moon orbiting satellite, designed by numerous student teams across Europe, in 2014. The Warwick team are responsible for the Electrical Power Supply (EPS) sub-system which includes the solar arrays, power regulation, battery management and power delivery. Mark concentrated on the battery management and power regulation aspects of the project, due to his knowledge of electronics and lithium ion battery charge and discharge methods.

In 2006/7 Mark worked at Goodrich Engine Control Systems (GECS) in Birmingham (now Aero Engine Controls). He was on the electronics team responsible for designing the engine control unit for the Rolls Royce BR725 jet engine. Responsibilities included circuit design, reliability prediction and quality management. The yearlong placement was a success and GECS sponsored Mark throughout his undergraduate degree. Mark also spent two summer placements at GECS, where he carried out design assurance testing on circuits designed for use on jet engine control systems.
