1. Research Fellow in combustion modelling and hydrogen cylinder response to fire attacks
A Research Fellow position is available in the School of Engineering at University of Warwick, United Kingdom. The purpose of the Fellowship is twofold. Initially the fellow is expected to contribute to an existing project by conducting large eddy simulation of premixed syngas flames using open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code OpenFOAM until September 2015. Following that, the fellow will work on Warwick’s part of the EPSRC funded joint project on “Integrated safety strategies for on-board hydrogen storage systems”. The collaborative project between three institutions aims to develop novel safety strategies and engineering solutions to increase the fire resistance of onboard hydrogen storage systems. Key activities at Warwick will include hazards identification and associated risk assessment, consequence analysis of potential fires in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as well as fire attacks from adjacent vehicles (including gasoline vehicles) and finite element analysis of tank response in fire environment. The Fellow will need to work in close collaboration with fellow researchers based at partner institutions and other industrial and academic collaborators of the consortium.
The applicants should have a PhD in numerical combustion. Experience in CFD code development for combustion applications is essential. Experience with OpenFOAM and finite element analysis is desirable but not essential.
