Abstract

A colour photometric stereo vision systems has been developed that enables fast recognition and inspection of industrial parts. The system which uses a single view position is capable of operating in low contrast environments wherein grey scale information is not sufficient to discriminate between an object and its background. This is achieved by the use of multiple coloured light sources which produce coloured shadows, thus enabling the system to detect silhouettes of work pieces and hence produce height profiles. The combined use of colour and shape information will enable a robot to pick up or inspect the parts under examination.
