Abstract

The areas of hexagonal sampling and the processing of hexagonally sampled images has been reviewed. Work from that done by Helmholtz (1911) to current researchers (2001) has been discussed and referenced. The major sections of the paper are:- Introduction; Image Sampling on a Hexagonal Grid; Processor Architecture; Binary Image Processing; Monochrome Image Processing; Conclusions. The paper contains both the theoretical and practical aspects of hexagonal image processing.
