Technical Release: TR-RWH 04 - Low-cost, thin-shell, 2m diameter ferrocement tank cover (2000)

he low-cost, thin-shell, ferrocement cover was developed as a response to the perceived need for a cover that uses no shuttering, uses little material and can be made remote from the tank and lifted into place once the tank is complete. The cover uses a reciprocal steel frame (6 and 10mm rebar) which is covered with chicken mesh and then rendered with a cement render. The cover weighs approximately 200kg and can be lifted onto a 2m high tank by 4 - 6 people. The cost of the materials to make the cover is in the region of £20 Sterling.
