Research Interests

Dr R. Peter Jones has more than 30 years of experience in piloting the use of systems engineering approaches, particularly model based techniques and tools, in the design, development and validation of systems within automotive vehicles. All of this work was carried out in collaboration with automotive companies and much of the work involved funding from UK Government and industry sources. His interests embraced: chassis systems; powertrain systems; and distributed, embedded electronic systems.

Biography

Peter Jones was born in Pontypool, Wales where he was a pupil at Abersychan Grammar-Technical School. He progressed to become a student at the University of Sheffield where he took the degree of BSc (Hons) in applied mathematics and computing science, and the degrees of MScTech and PhD in control systems engineering. Peter is a Fellow of the Institute of Measurement and Control, Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, and Chartered Mathematician.

Peter was appointed to the academic staff of the University of Warwick, School of Engineering in 1985. He held teaching responsibilities that involved the general areas of engineering mathematics and computing, and the specialist areas of systems modelling and control systems. In the latter stages of his career Peter also held management responsibility as the Discipline Stream Leader for Systems and Information Engineering.

Peter has supervised 33 research students through to successful completion of their theses and the award of their degrees. He was been principle investigator for 14 research grants, with a total value of around £5.8m and co-investigator for 6 research grants with a total value of around £2.6m. Peter has co-authored 35 articles in refereed journals, and almost 100 papers in published conference proceedings. He has co-edited one book and authored or co-authored 8 chapters in edited books.

Peter retired from his post in the School of Engineering at the beginning of October 2015 but continues to be actively involved in the School and University as an emeritus reader.
