My research interests focus on experimental, theoretical and computational modelling of engineering topics including fracture mechanics; reactive and non-reactive fluid flow in heterogeneous fractured porous media and contaminant transport. I develop efficient and robust numerical algorithms to capture the true hydro-chemo-mechanical behavior of a wide variety of heterogeneous materials that exhibit significant randomness. My research is highly multi-disciplinary and motivated by applications in integrity assessment of safety structures (e.g. nuclear energy and waste disposal systems, carbon capture and storage systems, flood embankments), environmental risk analysis, geotechnics and petroleum geomechanics. Currently collaborate with mathematicians, environmentalist, hydrologists and geotechnical engineers.
I always support students interested in pursuing PhD research related to any of the above topics.
