Stana Zivanovic

Profile

Stana Zivanovic graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia, where she also worked for three years as a Lecturer. She came to the UK in 2002 and completed her PhD thesis with the Vibration Engineering Section (VES) at the Department of Civil & Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield in the field of vibration serviceability of civil engineering structures. Her PhD thesis, entitled Probability-Based Estimation of Vibration for Pedestrian Structures due to Walking, presents a step change from traditional deterministic towards a probabilistic approach to vibration serviceability assessment of civil structures exposed to human-induced loading.

After completing her PhD studies, Stana worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the same research group. She was one of developers of advanced MATLAB-based software for vibration serviceability assessment of civil infrastructure. She has experience of testing large-scale structures, such as footbridges, floors and stadia both in the UK and abroad.

In June 2009, Stana joined the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick. She founded the Humans and Structures Laboratory at Warwick that is concerned with integrated experimental characterisation and numerical modelling of human-structure systems. This includes understanding human actions, structural performance, and human-structure interaction. To further research in this area, a unique laboratory facility that includes a full-scale footbridge, equipped with a motion capture system and state-of-the-art modal testing equipment, has been developed. Stana is a co-chair and co-organiser of a session (established in 2012) on Human-Induced Vibrations at annual IMAC conference organised by the Society for Experimental Mechanics, USA. More recently, she developed research interests in dynamic performance of (damaged) concrete and FRP structures.
