This module is one of a set of core modules for the MSc course in Tunnelling and Underground Space.

Aims :
To prepare students for working in the tunnelling industry and related project management environments and to be able to understand and articulate their personal role and responsibility as a professional engineer.
Learning Outcomes: At completion, students will be able to:
  • Identify and evaluate forms of contract and documents associated with a typical tunnelling/construction project.
  • Evaluate and use appropriate techniques to schedule, control and manage a construction project and associated risks.
Syllabus: Overview:
  • Civil Engineering and Construction Procurement.
  • Particular forms of Contract. Contract Documents :- Method of Measurement, Billing and Pricing, Getting Paid
  • Construction Planning:- techniques, site, waste.
  • Management of Change.
  • Advanced Financial Control.
  • Design control (Design Management) at each phase of a project.
  • Risk management (Project, Safety & Design).
  • Whole life costing.
