Vegetable Research Trust Fund

In 2010 the University of Warwick received a donation from the Vegetable Research Trust (VRT) to support work in the area of sustainable crop production. The fund can be used to award travel grants to students and staff of the University to enable travel and other expenses towards:

1. Attendance at a conference or seminar
2. Training and visits to other laboratories

Such conferences/seminars or sabbatical training opportunities should be related to the field of sustainable crop production with principal emphasis on vegetable production, and it is expected that the applicant will be an active participant at the conference or seminar through giving an oral or poster presentation.

Applications are invited for travel during the current academic year. A number of grants will be awarded, with a maximum individual award in the region of £2,000 depending on the activity. Part-funding from another source (e.g. existing project travel budget, learned societies etc) is generally required unless a case can be made as to why this is not possible. Please check the University of Warwick Expenses guidance and procedure to ensure that funding requested for travel, subsistence and accommodation is in line with the University’s policy on expenses.

Applicants should be a registered student or employee of the University of Warwick, and the proposed travel must be approved by their line manager/supervisor. We are particularly keen to encourage applications from PhD students, postdocs and early career researchers.

The Vegetable Research Trust generally considers applications twice yearly, normally in March/April and October/November which deadlines advertised with each call. Ad-hoc applications outside these times will not be considered. Please send applications on the VRT template to jeanette.morgan@warwick.ac.uk.

Applications will be considered by the VRT panel of Prof John Clarkson (PI, SLS, Chair), Dr Kate Rathbone (Research Strategy Development Officer, SLS), Andrea Crowley (Deputy Director of Development, Alumni and Supporter Engagement, Warwick) and Prof Matthew Dickinson (University of Nottingham).

Expenditure will be monitored; overspend will not be permitted and the end date will be strictly enforced. Applicants are required to submit a report on the funded activities to the VRT Committee within one month of the end date of their travel. Reports should be no more than two sides of A4, and should be submitted to jeanette.morgan@warwick.ac.uk If the funding awarded has supported travel to a conference or seminar, please attach the abstract and/or an A4 print of the poster that you presented.
