Philip Hanson

Background:

I am currently a second year PhD student working in the area of population genetics, measure-valued Markov processes and coalescent theory. My supervisors are Dr Dario Spanò, Dr Paul Jenkins and Dr Jere Koskela. I graduated with an MMath in 2017 from the University of Bath. My final year project was supervised by Professor Andreas Kyprianou and concerned Brownian excursions into the interior of the unit ball in 2 dimensions.

Research Interests:

My research interests are centred around probability and its applications in population genetics. I namely look at coalescents and their small time behaviour when coming down from infinity, quantifying the speed at which they do so and their CLT fluctuations.

Publications:

"Diffusion Limits at Small Times for Coalescent Processes with Mutation and Selection" (2020), Philip A. Hanson, Dario Spano, Paul A. Jenkins and Jere Koskela, under review. https://arxiv.org/abs/2012.10316
