Scientific Research and Communication MSc (formerly called Communicating Multidisciplinary Science)

The MSc in Scientific Research and Communication (formerly called Communicating Multidisciplinary Science) uses the very best English Language teaching from the Centre for Applied Linguistics and the very best teaching and research from the highly rated science departments from across the University of Warwick.

The MSc programme offers you the prospect to gain new scientific writing skills through three core modules that teach you scientific English Language skills.  Whilst improving your English Language skills you'll be able to obtain advanced scientific training from across a range of disciplines within the Faculty of Science.  Several university departments are participating in the degree programme including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Warwick HRI

There is a large range of modules on offer (>50) and subject to timetabling the choice is entirely up to you, depending on your scientific skills and interests.


The course aims to give you:

  • Greatly increased English Language skills and their application to communicating science
  • Advanced training and teaching in a wide range of disciplines
  • Research experience through the completion of a research-based project based in one of Warwick's first class research groups from within an individual discipline within the Faculty of Science

The course consists of:

  • 'Core' modules on research skills and writing scientific articles and reports and effectively communicating these to difference audiences
  • A research project, based in a university department from the Faculty of Science.  A key part of the project will be training in how to report your results
  • A choice of approximately five modules (making a total of 96 CATS taught material) from the >50 modules on offer from the Faculty of Science

  • Students with GCSE grade B or higher, or IELTS 7.0 or higher, or equivalent will take core modules CH934, CH933, CH935, and CH956.
  • Students with GCSE grade C or lower, or IELTS 6.5 or lower, or equivalent will take core modules ET984, CH934, CH933,  and CH956.
