2011 MOAC Annual Conference

MOAC's 2011 annual conference was at Arnside Youth Hostel (within sight of the Lake District but across Morecambe Bay) from 13-16th July 2011.

The programme commenced with MSc talks on arrival and a talk from Robert Freedman entitled 'The good, the bad and the indifferent of thesis writing.'

There were posters presentations during the evenings and Martyn Rittman, a current post doc, (and former MOAC PhD student) talked about his life in academia. Martin Sweet from the EPSRC spoke about how to write a grant proposal and also where it goes once submitted. One of the MOAC MSc students, Chrissie Waddington, spoke about outreach opportunities whilst studying with MOAC, and Tony Bristow from AstraZenica also gave a very interesting talk on his work and how he came to have the career he does.

On the final day of the conference, Hugo van den Berg spoke about the importance of good grammar, and Gill de Calvo (Careers Service at Warwick) spoke about how to present yourself in the most advantageous light at interviews and events.

Making the most of the beautiful scenery:
