Nigel and Jenny's trip to Egypt Dec 2009
In December 2009 my wife Jenny and myself spent a fascinating few days in the Eastern desert of Egypt.

One of the reasons for the visit was to look at pictures of boats that were drawn on rocks at various locations.
It has been suggested that these were because, perhaps 5000 years ago, some boats were dragged across the mountains from the Red sea to the Nile. At first this sounds an unlikely possibility, but there is in fact a route across the mountains where the gradient is never greater than 1 in 100, and which goes past a couple of the more significant boat drawing sites.
