Bacterial Cell Division

Unlike animal cells, bacterial cells reproduce via a process called binary fission. This involves reproducing the DNA of the cell, separating the two resulting copies to opposite ends of the cell before dividing down the middle to create two daughter cells that each contain the correct components to survive and reproduce as that particular type of bacteria. My PhD aims to investigate the proteins involved with the final stage of this process, the formation and behaviour of a complex capable of splitting a cell into two halves.
