Academic Background

University of Warwick:

MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry 2013-present.

Miniproject 1 - "Modelling the keratin family: Intermediate filament proteins found in human skin, hair and nails".

  • Supervisors: Dr. David Bray and Dr. Rebecca Notman.
  • Skills to be acquired: Biomolecular simulations using the NAMD software, working in a Linux environment and using high performance computing.

Miniproject 2 - "Design and testing of kinetochore-fiber and kinetochore targets for protein inactivation using knocksideways (KS) method".

  • Supervisor: Dr. Stephen Royle.
  • Skills to be acquired: Modern molecular biology, cell culture techniques and fluorescence microscopy.

Miniproject 3 - "Molecular analysis of a Kif15/Tpx2/Aurora-A kinesin-kinase holoenzyme".

  • Supervisor: Professor Andrew McAinsh.
  • Skills to be acquired: Baculovirus expression systems, protein purification using affinity chromatography, in-vitro phosphorylation assays and TIRF microscopy.

University of Leicester:

BSc in Medical Biochemistry (First Class Honours) 2010-2013

My final year project was based on establishing a novel disulfide tethering approach to stabilising a protein complex, consisting of the mitotic kinase Aurora A, and its binding partner, TPX2. Skills acquired includes; Site-Directed Mutagenesis (SDM), protein expression in E.coli cells and protein purification using affinity chromatography.

Research Interests

My research interests revolve around the study of cell division and Cancer:

  • Structural biology of mitotic proteins
  • Mitotic spindle and kinetochore dynamics
  • Structure-based drug development
