Postgraduate Student Staff Liaison Committee

The physics postgraduate student-staff liaison committee (PGSSLC) exists to represent the views of postgraduates within the department and encourage a sense of community.

The committee consists of representatives from each year of PhD students, MSc students and academic staff. At least one of the Chair and Secretary is always a postgraduate. Items discussed include:

  • academic progress
  • safety
  • library and IT provision
  • teaching and demonstrating
  • careers and skills
  • social events

Meetings are usually on Fridays at 12:30pm in various locations. An invitation via email with details of where will be sent prior to each meeting. All postgraduates are encouraged to attend. Lunch and soft drinks are provided free of charge.

This PG-SSLC is part of the University SSLC network, including the Physics Undergraduate SSLC, that has produced an effective system of academic representation and feedback for students across the institution.

One of the activities spawned from the Physics PG-SSLC has been the Postgraduate Seminar Series.

The presentation from the 2009 induction day about the SU and SSLC can be found here.
